Not just you... can hardly keep my head from bobbing... oh boy, 3 and a half hours to go...
Kt
Is anyone else tired, or is it just me? Hope to get a nap in before tonight...

Ty, I had an idea about your costume; if you get to WM, get a large pair of underwear (to fit over pants) and some of that fuzzy furry fabric and just staple patches to the underwear. That, along with the non-infested fur boots (you should probably wash that piece just in case, since fleas jump) should make a good costume, I think (don't forget the unibrow!)

I'll call you later today to sort details.

Miss

Weather

By the way, just checked...

If you're looking at the weather, check TheWeatherNetwork.ca instead of the Environment Canada site.

EC calls for rain, WN says mostly clear. We'll go with that.

Ignorance is bliss.
TH

Excuse me, Stephen Hawking is holding on line 2...

Sweet time machine, Team!! If only we had actually gotten argon, the possibilities are endless!!

Miss, gimme a call today so we can arrange stuff. I should be able to get to WM at some point, so I can grab last minute stuff (like my costume, apparently!!). Please let me know about snacks or whatever else too I can grab.

I will have a chance to check this page at least once more today. Keep me posted, and I will see you as soon as possible tonight!!

Don't leave the present day without me!!

I'm sure I know a guy who has random poles, etc with which to secure tarps in a treeless environment. We'll see what we can do.

Talk with you soon.
TH
FYI - Becky, Christie and I are heading over to the Hand residence after work (4:30-ish).
Kt

gear

I don't think stoves are allowed, but for sure the lawn chairs etc are good. There will only be room for the one tent, so the szlaters have one of those huge two-room ones. We for sure need tarps, and equally important we need ways of holding up the tarps; there are no trees or anything, you are literally in the middle of a grassy field.

Anyway, Ty I will call you this afternoon sometime.

C

The guy who invented blogging is laughing in his pile of money right now....and beating up the guy who invented Facebook

So much action, I didn't read all the posts. Here's where I can help:

I have tarps galour (have you met my father?!?) rope, spikes/stakes, a tent, multiple sleeping bags, 2 camp chairs, and even a little campstove for late night warm drinks. This can all be assembled rapidly tonight.

Talk soon,
TH
Man, I wish I had access to a computer all freakin day, so I too could have some idea of what's going on. I just checked this morning, and so much has since happened!! Confusion reigns!!

OK, I am a go for tonight as well. I'm on an early run, so I can probably be at the house by just after 7. Go ahead and eat if that's too long, but please save me some!! I need to stop for dryer hose (Sorry) and I can grab any last minute additions you think of before I get there. I will call before I leave work. My truck will accomodate the box, but I'll have to arrange a vehicle swap as I won't be able to arrive until past 7, which apparently means I'll miss all the good stuff. (Not too happy about that, still trying to arrange a route swap with another pilot.)

Anywho, there's the dealio. I will be on the computer until 4:00, so please let me know what I can do. Also, quicker response may be had on that old-fashioned artifact, the cellular telephone.

Thanks, looking forward to it, talk with y'all tonight!

Sorry for the rampant posting this morning...geez...
Does anyone have RISK? My lecture on fiefdoms and monarchies got me in the mood to play RISK.

Britt
Apparently I missed that pun. Is our theme time or something? hmm, I just thought it was a chance to wear a toga with a parka underneath.

I think you got everything in your agenda Kt. I can't think of any supplies; I have lots of coloured paper, some sticky coloured paper stuff, those flashing light thingers, but I think I just got rid of my glitter (oh poo). If you think of anything else, feel free to bring it along. What we really need is ideas, because I have exactly zero. I am all crafted out from the box wrapping fiasco. I am happy to cut and paste but am no good with design (evidence: I mentioned glitter). Glue sticks might be a good idea, or rubber cement, I don't have enough adhesive to create an entire time machine.

I don't know what time is good; as I say, I am home around 5 or so, so feel free to come around then, or whatever fits your schedule. Please everyone let me know what time you are coming, so I know whether we need to come up with dinner or not (not a problem if you want to come for dinner, I would just be ordering in...mom won't be home to cook, its festival of quilts weekend, I haven't eaten for two weeks because of it). (just kidding).

Anywho, let me know if you're coming for dinner, and if you are, what your prefered pizza flavor is.

Ch

p.s. Katie, are you and I just writing to each other? Would I be better to just walk across the office and talk to you, or is everyone else reading this too? Its a bit of a slow day at Bison....
Kate, do we still have that TV box? We could cut that to make the top part (Mmm that sounds so much like pop tart)

Then we will just need to add a few knobs and pulleys and WHAM-O a time machine!

I'm off school at five, so I can meet around 6 or so. Pizza sounds good.

Britt

Ready or not - here we come!!

Alright, what time are we meeting tonight? Are there any supplies or anything that I should pick up on the way?
Here are some things that are on the agenda for tonight...
- make team sign
- transform the large silver box into a time machine (ie: decorations, elevator top thing, etc)
- organize the snack food/drink situation as well as the lawn chair/stake/tarp situation
What am I missing?
See you all tonight,
Kt

By the way, nice pun Britt ("TIME to pack") haha, i don't miss anything!
Sounds good. I think we are meeting tonight at the hand house to finish all of our crappy crafts. I am available anytime after 430, and if we are all around at dinner we can just order pizza or something. We can work in the garage, so it will be dry and (relatively) warm, but bring a sweater because its not heated. See everyone soon!!

TIME to pack!

Things To Bring:

Sleeping bag/Warm blankets

Decorations for campsite - We haven't actually thought of any, but if we do, we should bring them.

Masking tape for tent decorations

Lawn Chairs

Umbrella

Rain gear - Any water proof jackets and pants

Warm Clothes! At least a couple layers of pants, sweaters, socks, toque, mitts, balaclava, NASA-approved gortex jacket, sled dogs (okay the last few may not be necessary, but you get the picture. It will be COLD at night. The warmer you are, the happier you will be)

Snacks and bottled water - The Szlaters will bring a cooler. Try to bring granola bars, fruit, fruit snacks, water, that sort of thing.

Hat - and prayers for weather warm enough to require a hat.

Sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher) - see above

Good walking shoes - the kind of shoes you can wear for say, a twelve hour span, without crying.

Flashlights - for those late night trips to the outhouse

Card games or board games - LIFE! Ee-bo Ee-bo

$$$ pocket change -For luminaries, buying off the judges etc...

Camera

A sense of adventure/Your will to live - You'll need this at around 4am.

I make Martha Stewart cry

I'm so excited! First place here we come!

I started working on the sign. However, as I have experience numerous times attempting various crafts (ie candleholders and bracelets) it turned out like crap. Luckily I didn't actually glue anything on the poster board. I will try printing out letters rather than cutting them out by hand. Maybe that will help. In regards to the sign, do we want to put our team name (Time to End Cancer) or something about us being time travellers? I worry that people (the judges most importantly) will not get our "theme". What do you think?

Anywho we can work out these details tomorrow. I'm also going to post a list of everything we will need to bring.

Britt

thats progress clogging your lungs

Hurray! We have a giant silver box! It is taller than me (so its gotta be about 5 foot 3 inches tall), and smaller than a fridge box, but thank god because wrapping a fridgebox in paper would have been a nightmare. Becky, Katie and I ended up stacking some boxes together, taping them, wrapping them in Szlater craft paper (Uncle Keith that stuff is the best investment you've ever made), and then using nearly 2 cans of silver spray paint. Ok, I can see that you are only mildly impressed; well check this out: there is only one visable tape seam! yeah, thats right. Anywho, it is currently drying in my garage.

We also made a trip to value village for costume stuff (awsome, and it was 50% off Tuesday), and to the dollar store for paper for our team sign, and other bits and bobs. We got some glow sticks as well as some toy things that have flashing lights that would look awsome on a time machine.

So, here is what is left to do. We need to decorate the time machine with knobs and dials and tubes etc., since right now it is just a silver box and is not capable of quantum leaps. We need to make a team sign...which reminds me, Britt are we still Ten for Them, or Time to end Cancer? Because I wonder if we name ourselves something other than what we are registered as (i.e. on the website) if they won't know who we are to award us our prize (and that is whats important here). Anyway, all you creative types, get your thinking caps on. I have a large piece of black paper for a sign, and I have coloured paper, including neon, and we can use tin foil for any silver. We also need to coordinate who will bring what, in terms of tents, tarps, snacks etc.

I am not free now until Thursday evening, but the poster board and silver box are at my house if anyone would like to drop by and get it/work on it (just call first, not sure who will be home). I will be there to work on stuff on Thursday, and I believe that Katie is around then too (and Becky?). It would be really great to get all the hands we can so that it doesn't take hours and hours again, and so that we can sort out last details and get final orders from our fearless captain.

If anyone has anything they need for their costume, maybe we can post it here or facebook or something, to get the word out. I think Katie was still looking for slouch socks, preferably neon, and she might even wear them to the relay, ha ha.

Alright, so now you are up to date on the status of the infamous time machine that almost wasn't. I am pretty excited for the relay, lets keep our fingers crossed for good weather (currently, it is supposed to snow Friday a.m. but clear up by evening). Hopefully see you all Thursday, bring your designs! Now, if you'll excuse me, I just coughed and silver came out....is that bad?

sure, you might as well try any place you can think of. We are calling around to find other types of boxes, such as wardrobe boxes (tallest so far is 46 inches). After work Katie and Becky and I are going to head over to VV and anywhere else we can think of, there is a totem up the street from here that dad thinks may have chloroplast (no, thats the things plants have, I don't remember what the plastic stuff is called) that we could build out of. We are also looking into storage places, they sell moving supplies.

I think we need to start telling people that this is for a time machine, then they might take us seriously.

Ty, give me a call on my cell when you're free tonight, and I will let you know what (if anything), we have come up with.

C
I'm around tonight, but not until about 7-ish. I need to hit HD or CT (Cdn Tire) still for a dryer tube (do we still need it? I would think it would help.) So I can check those places? Do you want me to try the Coast Wholesale warehouse on the off chance they actually put one aside even though I couldn't get ahold of them? I'll be on the computer off and on for the next 3 hours, let me know, or leave me a cell message.
TH
sounds good, we can head out right from here. We can at least hit the VV on 32nd, and then decide where to look for boxes from there. Is there a home depot around there, or just on 36th?

C
Alright, I'm free tonight and Thursday night as well. I vote we get started right after work today Christie and hit Home Depot etc. That way if we end up getting a box, we'll have some time to work on it. I also have to visit the VV for some 80's apparel. I went to the one in the south yesterday and I couldn't find even one Kookabura sweatshirt.. what is this world coming to?? I know Britt gets out of class at 5... is Ty free tonight?
Kt

mayday! mayday!

Ok, lets get serious here. T- minus three evenings before relay day, and we do not have a time machine. Becky didn't have any luck finding boxes, door or otherwise. Is anyone around tonight? I propose that we check out Home depot etc one more time, maybe stop by some places in person; if we can't find a box, we can ask for cardboard and just do a patch job to get it all together and resembling at least the front of the time machine. Who is around?

Also, are we doing anything else to decorate our campsite?

Also, we should start co-ordinating supplies and snacks (the most important part of the evening, the snacks).

Does anyone else need value village or a fabric store? I am thinking of heading to one or the other tonight.

This week, I am only free tonight and thursday night.

Who knew that time travel was so complicated?

I have no idea what you are on about with the zapping door box, but it sounds like a good idea to me!

You guys have any free time this week?

Britt

Thursday, May 17, 2007

ok, so Becky has come up with an alternate, and it is quite brilliant, I say. If we just get two large flat pieces of cardboard (like a door box) we could create a time machine that you walk through rather than get into. Wow this will be really hard to explain, I had to (poorly) draw a picture for Katie. We could take two flat pieces and connect them with something that looks like "zappers", like when you walk through it, it zaps you. I can see you giving me that same blank look that Katie gave me pre-diagram. Trust me, this could work. Anyway, becky is going to look around this weekend for door boxes, etc., and she is also going to consult with her husband devin, who apparently has been planning on building a time machine for a while now.

ok, so we may have a way around the fridge box dilemma.

ch

Plan B

I suppose if we can't get a box we could always just use a piece of carboard and draw it. It doesn't necessarily have to be 3-D. We could also just use a smaller box, it would at least be easier to carry.

What do you guys think?

I figure with a sign describing who we are and some representation of a timemachine (whether or not its an actual box) that it should be enough to get our point across and more importantly win first place.

What day is everyone free next week?

Britt

oh dear

Well these are the number that were on-line:
calgary south: 243-8780
calgary north: 717-0548

I think we had better come up with a plan B. If nothing materializes today, we could get a few sheets of whatever my dad was talking about (was it plastic? cardboard?) and build a box.

Also, we could try other places again and hope to happen upon something.

I have been having images of us hauling around this monstrosity weighing a ton, and then having it take us our entire campsite. Does anyone have any other ideas, i.e. a smaller time machine?

In the event that we can't get a fridge box, are we sticking with the theme? Oh my god I am panicking. must take deep breaths.

CH

Technical difficulties

Small potential problem:
I have left multiple messages for Coast, with no response. I'm getting a little worried. Miss, can you please confirm the phone # for me? It should be on that note pad you had last weekend.
I will keep trying, but do we need to pursue other avenues?

Box, anyone?!?

An update:

The warehouse at Coast Wholesale Appliances (far and above the friendliest appliance people in the city. Trust me, I talked to them all. Can't you be happy selling appliances?!?) is going to hold a fridge and/or stackable washer/drier (same size apparently) box for us. I will pay them a visit mid-week to grab whatever they have.

Sorry for all the (brackets) and the insanely long run-on sentence.

Talk soon!

Saturday

Sounds swell. I posted my pledge link on Facebook (it is rediculously addicting isn't it?!?) and a girl who I haven't talked to since high school (read: 10 YEARS!!) pledged us. Unreal. I was blown away.

Anyway, I'll make my purchases at HD as well this weekend. Gimme a call. Until then, make sure you watch the DME off the VOR, and follow the HSI to VV. ASAP PDQ Stat, etc.

Good job on the fundraising everyone!! Looks like we're sitting at ~ $700 in pledges just online! Add that to the money we have each raised in cash and cheques and we're doing really good. My dad has raised over $400 in cash/cheques just from the people at work! And Becky is selling homemade chocolate muffins at work to raise money. Let's be creative and try to beat our total from last year!!!

Sounds like a date! :)
Kt

saturday

How about 1:30 on Saturday, at Hand central? We can start phoning around then, and gives us time to go get one if we need to. Auntie Bev said she has gotten boxes from Trail Appliances no problem ( I didn't know we had time machine experience in the family....) I have not gotten any spray paint yet, thought I'd wait to make sure we get a box....

Alright, I'm good for this Saturday but I have a psych exam at 6pm on May 16. I can always join you guys after my exam if I happen to finish early. What time are we meeting this Saturday? My day is open.
Anyway, let me know what the plan is!
Kt
I'm going to VV and HD (Home Depot, are we abbreviating everything or just Value Village?) tonight to get my portion of the time machine components. I'll leave the goods with KT so you will have them on Saturday.

BTW, I'm good for meeting on May 16th.

TTYL,

Monday, May 7, 2007

Ok, the three of us (K, T and C) can get together Saturday to get a fridge box and possibly hit the V V (that sounds much posher than it actually is). Then we can build the machine itself another time, perhaps in an evening....is anyone around May 16? That is one of the dates B mentioned she is free, I am free all of her other dates as well, minus the monday nights.

Can you imagine what it must be like for someone to stumble onto this blog? All talk about raising money to build a time machine out of a fridge box! We'll see who's laughing once its built and we get the deluxe campsite....(cause that doesn't seem even weirder...)

christie
I'm in Ottawa on Saturday unfortunately. I have very, very little time off until May 22nd.

The only days I have off are:
Wednesday 9th - all day
Sunday 13th - after 8pm
Monday 14th - Thursday 17th
Tuesday 22nd - Until the end of the month.

I may have to pick up my home depot items and costume pieces seperately. Hopefully we can meet at some point to work on the time machine some more and get the rest of it together. Do any of those days work for you guys?

Britt

T minus 18 days...

My truck, oh and myself, are in on Saturday. I will attempt to make some calls this week.

Any other thoughts for "customizing" the time machine? Has anyone figured out actual time travel yet?

Good times, can't wait, talk to y'all on the weekend!!

TH
Alright, who is around on Saturday? Can we plan to meet up in the afternoon that day? Maybe we could meet at my place and make some calls, then head out from there. I am also up for a value village trip for costume stuff, if anyone needs anything...I need a toga appropriate sheet. Anyway, drop me a line if you're available.

Christie

Saturday, May 5, 2007

Let's get this ball rolling!!

So I've got my relay site up and running... finally!! Has anyone called dibs on pledges from family members (ie: Granddad, Uncle Robert, the Romermans, etc)?
I agree that we need to get on the hunt for a fridge box! I'm pretty free this weekend... anyone else?
Katie

Friday, May 4, 2007

the race is on!

Well well well....look at that team total!! And wait a sec, look at my total!! Strikingly similar, no? Actually, I was sneaky and e-mailed everyone in my company, and beat Katie to the punch, so we decided that in terms of the money making competition, we would divide all bison donations in half between us.

Also, anyone had any luck with a fridge box? I think that a campaign may be necessary...is there an evening or weekend that everyone is available (or even someone in addition to me) that we can do a phone blitz of appliance stores (I vote Katie or Ty for the phoning job), and find one that will hold a fridge box for us...or we can drive around to stores and hope that we stumble on one. Time machines don't build themselves, you know, so we need to get craacking. Anywho, let me know.

Also, I may have recruited more people for our team. I told them our brilliant theme, and they still want to join so goody.

It's that TIME again!

After much deliberation (and many bowls of Kraft Dinner) we have chosen a theme for the relay.

Time Travelers!

We are people throughout the ages of time that have transported themselves (with the help of a time machine of course) to the year 2007 to participate in the Relay for Life.

THE CHARACTERS:

Caveman – Ty
Native American –
Roman - Christie
Settler –
Cowboy -Keith
50s
60s - Britt
70s –
80s – Katie
90s –
2007 – Nadia (?)
Future – Tyler LeBlanc

*Nadia, Chelsey and Blythe: If none of these interest you, you are more than welcome to invent your own character from another era.

THE PROPS:

We have the blueprints of what (I think) will be a terrific time machine.

Here is a list of the things we definitely need:

-Dryer Tube (Ty)
-Silver spray paint, pipe cleaners (Christie)
-Wires, dials and knobs, glue (Britt)
-Lights (Keith)

If anyone has (or knows where we can get) a refrigerator box, that would be wonderful. Please check your basements, dollar stores, garages, alleys and various junkyards for these items.

THE SLOGAN:

The slogan we came up with was “Time to end cancer”. If you think of another one, please post it.
I think we have made a really good start. Now we just have to work out a time to actually put all of this together. Good work team!
Thanks, Britt

Welcome to Relay for Life 2007!

Welcome!

With the Relay for Life coming up we are going to need to do a ton of brainstorming and planning. As we are all very busy people, I figured this would be the easiest format to keep in touch.

If you have any themes, questions or fantastic fundraising ideas just post them here. I will give everyone the username and login, just be sure to add your name so we know who posted. If you have any questions about using blogger give me a call or send off an email, I'd be happy to help.

Looking forward to another great year guys!

Adios, Bitty
